I started my weight loss journey 2 years ago. I was at my heaviest...376lbs. Something I would have never dared to share with anyone at that time. I was on cholesterol medication and 4 medications for Type II diabetes. I didn't want to end up on insulin and realized I needed to do something to lose weight and get healthy. I made a lot of lifestyle changes....gave up soda (anything carbonated), caffeine, beef and sugar. I started meal prepping. The weight started coming off but I knew I had to start moving. I tried a personal trainer that I met through a co-worker who helped me get started, but it didn't work out.
A few months later I knew I had to find someone to help me continue my journey and then I saw a forwarded post on Facebook advertising a special on personal training with Mardae of Soular Fitness. I had past his gym countless times and had always wanted to go in but honestly I was intimidated. I finally mustered up the courage and went in and met Mardae on a Friday. I started working with him that following Tuesday. That's been 10 months ago now. I am grateful I saw that post! Mardae has taught me that the scale is not the only thing that measures your success. There are other things...the way your clothes are fitting and the accomplishments that are being made in the gym.
I used to be the type of person who drove around parking lots looking for a front row space. I used to hate going anywhere that required a lot of walking because I would get out of breath and tire quickly. I now park where ever I find a spot, near or far. I now look forward to going places where there is a lot of walking.
I'm no longer the person in the rear but the person leading the pack often stopping, looking back and telling whoever I'm with to come on and keep up with me!
Since working with Mardae, I don't "hate" going to work out. I look forward to the challenges he puts in front of me. There are things I'm doing now that I'd thought I'd be able to do but it's mind over matter. It's still a battle and always will be. Mardae pushes me to do better and doesn't just care about what you're doing in the gym but with your diet as well. Mardae wants what I want which is to be all around healthy and off prescription medications.
I am currently off cholesterol medication and down to one medication for my Type II diabetes. I am also down a little over 120lbs. I still would like to lose another 70 or so pounds but I am no longer so focused on the weight itself but on getting off my medication and focusing more on my fitness goals. The wight will eventually come off. I remind myself that I didn't put all this weight on over night and it's not going to come off over night.
I share my story hoping to encourage others. When I first started my journey I used to feel as thought I had so far to go and felt overwhelmed at times. I encourage anyone who wants to get stated to reach out to Mardae at Soular Fitness. He works with you and will help you achiever your goals. I'm so grateful I found him. Everyone in the gym from trainers to others working out are friendly and so encouraging. It is a great atmosphere where we all are working towards our goals together.
